Always test the carpet freshener on a hidden area first. You don’t need to use too much carpet freshener as a little goes a long way. Leave for 20 minutes or longer if you wish. 
Then hoover as normal
When using the carpet freshener, keep any pets and children out of the room until every last bit of powder has been vacuumed up.
Regular cleaning and emptying of your vacuum are advisable when using any type of carpet freshener powder.
